We have worked at building up our food storage off and on during the past few years, but Karen has recently become very serious about it because her sister introduced her to the exciting sport of “couponing.” When I was a child, my mom would religiously clip coupons from the Sunday paper in anticipation of the monthly shopping trip to the Malmstrom AFB commissary in Great Falls, MT. A commissary is much like a standard grocery store, but has discounted prices to help military families. Every month, one lucky child would be selected to skip school and troll the isles with mom in search of deals. We would regularly fill up three to four carts on those trips and mom usually saved $30 to $40 from the coupons. I thought that was an amazing discount…
Until recently, we always tossed the coupons and ads from the paper because they never seemed to be very good deals. That was until Karen’s sister’s friend started the Crazy Coupons Blog. Since then, our food storage has increased substantially…with Raisin Bran…24 boxes of Raisin Bran to be exact. Normally I would object to such craziness, but at the cost of $2 total for all 24 boxes…it tastes alright. Although, I may have a different opinion once I reach box 15. Karen is even planning on making another run tomorrow morning for Raisin Bran Crunch so that we have a little variation for breakfast.
