Why Have I Waited Soooo Long

8/25/2008

Nearly every night for the past 841 days, my bed has asked the same question, “Why have you waited sooooo long to lay down?”  My body has consistently responded (while melting into the soft, wonderful memory foam), “Because I am stupid.”

I wake at 5:30 AM, Monday through Friday, at 7:30 AM on Saturday, and 6:00 AM on Sunday.  This means that I NEED to be asleep by 10:15 PM so that I can get at least 7 hours of sleep.  However, here’s a sample of what normally happens:

09:40:00 PM – cell phone alarm signals that I need to get ready for sleep
09:40:01 PM – I angrily turn it off and ignore the warning
09:50:00 PM – I mention to Karen we need to get ready for sleep
09:50:30 PM – I remember something I “need” to do and start working on it
10:15:00 PM – I should be in bed with my eyes closed
10:20:00 PM – Karen mentions to me that we need to get ready for sleep
10:30:00 PM – “AGH!!!  IT’S 10:30!!!  WE NEED TO SLEEP” one of us gasps
10:31:00 PM – Karen shuts off her computer
10:40:00 PM – I finally shut off my computer
10:43:00 PM – I turn my computer back on to do something else
11:15:00 PM – Karen and I are chatting in bed
11:16:00 PM – I get up and write a post-it note reminding me of something else
Sometime later – I finally fall asleep

Ugh…this happens WAY too often and 5:30 AM comes WAY too fast.  Last night and once again, my body responded, “Because I am stupid.”

Adelle’s Favorite Game

So…Adelle has started playing a new game that I THOROUGHLY enjoy.  It is by far the best game I have ever heard of.  I love playing it EVERY time I get home after work.  The game is “Night Night.”  The game is played as follows: I get a pillow and lie down next to Adelle’s bed.  I then go “night night” by closing my eyes and taking a nap.  It’s WONDERFUL.  If I ever lift my head off the pillow, Adelle will get off her bed and shove my head back down.  It really is a fun game and I HIGHLY recommend playing it with your child if possible.

My souvenir…

A couple of months ago (and it’s taken until now to blog about it!), Adelle and I went to visit with Rich’s sisters and mom while the guys took a trip to Colorado. We had a great time, and Adelle really enjoyed spending time with her cousins, aunts, and grandma, and great-grandma.

The cousin closest in age to Adelle is Andrew. They never quite warmed up all the way to each other. By the last day we were there, Adelle would scream anytime he got near her. Not really sure all that went on between them… I don’t think he warmed up to me either. Or maybe he did and just chose a unique way of showing it!

On our second to last day there, I headed down the stairs to find Andrew playing on the bottom steps. I said hi and I think I may have tickled him or tried to play with him before getting into the kitchen. The next thing I know everyone in the kitchen is silent, and I feel a sharp pain on my right temple next to my eye. At first, I wasn’t sure what happened. I looked over at Andrew who was no longer holding his sippy cuy (he had been holding it as I made my way down the stairs. I looked down and saw the sippy cup by my feet. I had been hit in the side of the head by a sippy cup!

I haven’t had any large, hard objects thrown at my head in a long time (I eventually learned how to get away from the line of fire when around Sebastian!). So maybe Andrew had warmed up to me. He did notice me and gave me some attention after the several attempts I made throughout the week trying to talk to him and being told from him a very firm “no”. He gave me a souvenir – my sister commented that she noticed a bruise on the side of my face when we got back home…

Scottish Festival

8/3/2008

Karen, Adelle, and I visited the annual Scottish Festival held at Ardenwood Farms in Fremont just over 2 months ago and I am finally going to blog about it (I know that you have all been anxiously awaiting this entry).

This blog can be summed up in one statement: I am glad that I live in the modern era.  We learned how to make fabric and weave cloth.  I was able to wield a sword and other various weapons of hacking (very different from computer hacking).  We learned how to NOT lose fingers, hair, eyes, and life while shooting flint-lock muzzle loader rifles.  Best of all, we got to see some people dressed up in elaborate and CRAZY outfits.  The craziest of the lot can be seen in the photos below.  I’m sure some people enjoy dressing as wenches or wearing kilts, but I think the draconian costume is a little out there.  For starters, the costume would be rather expensive…my guess is $250 for the mask.  Leather armor is quite pricey as well.  In all, he probably spent more than $500 for his elaborate costume.  I wish I had that kind of discretionary income!  Anyway, I’m sure the big payoff for this person is that both children and adults want to have their picture taken with him.
